No injuries were reported after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a Wendy’s restaurant in Park City early Saturday morning, fire officials said.
The Gurnee Fire Department and Park City Police Department responded around 1 a.m. Saturday to the Wendy’s, 3101 Belvidere Road in Park City, for a report of an appliance fire.
A 911 caller reported smoke was coming from a grill in the restaurant’s kitchen and it was also sparking, Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Bob Heraver said.
Police officers arrived at the scene first and found flames visible inside.
The incident was upgraded to a structure fire response to bring additional fire department units to the scene, Heraver said.
A fire extinguisher had been used but was unsuccessful.
Fire crews arrived and reported finding moderate smoke inside the restaurant.
Firefighters confirmed a grill was on fire in the kitchen, Heraver said.
They pulled a hose line to begin extinguishing the fire and brought it under control quickly.
Heraver said firefighters remained on the scene for approximately an hour. No injuries were reported.
Wendy’s was temporarily closed until the kitchen could be cleaned up. It is possible they may open later on Saturday.
The area where the fire started has a fire suppression system but it did not activate, Heraver said.
Heraver said the damage was minimal because the fire did not extend to the building itself.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gurnee Fire Department.
