A Woodstock man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing a child, who was under the age of 13, that he was accused of kidnapping in McHenry.
Robert P. Klein, 21, of Woodstock, was charged in April 2023 with kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse, grooming, solicitation to meet a child, contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor and child luring.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Klein communicated electronically with a child on April 17, 2023.
Klein lured and solicited the child by arranging to meet with them at a location without the child’s parents, the complaint said.
Klein groomed the child by communicating electronically to seduce, solicit, lure and entice the child to commit a sex offense, the complaint said.
The complaint said Klein, who was residing in McHenry at the time, kidnapped the child, who is under the age of 13, by confining them without the child’s parents’ consent.
Klein also provided the juvenile with cannabis to consume, the complaint added. During the incident, he sexually abused the child.
The case was investigated by the McHenry Police Department and Klein was arrested on April 18, 2023.
A judge ordered Klein held on a $75,000 bond during an initial court hearing.
Klein was released from the McHenry County Jail following the hearing after posting 10% of his bond.
Court records show Klein entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office this week.
He pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.
McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea and sentenced Klein to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the plea.
