Police say an 18-year-old man who was upset about being asked to produce identification to buy tobacco products threatened to shoot an employee at a gas station in Riverwoods.
The Riverwoods Police Department responded around 3 a.m. last Sunday to the Thorntons gas station, 1055 North Milwaukee Avenue in Riverwoods, for a report of an assault.
Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said Brian S. Bardo, 18, of Elk Grove Village, entered the store and attempted to purchase tobacco products.
The employee requested proof of identification from Bardo.
The man did not provide the identification as he is under the age of 21. The employees refused to sell him the products, Dayno said.
Bardo allegedly shattered two bottles of wine that were offered for sale in the store.
He also threatened to shoot one of the gas station employees, Dayno said.
Officers arrested Bardo and transported him to the Riverwoods Police Department where he was processed and released after being charged with assault and criminal damage to property.
Bardo is scheduled to appear at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan on May 15.
