Police say an employee of an assisted living facility in Lake Zurich was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female co-worker on Friday.
The Lake Zurich Police Department responded around 12:05 p.m. Friday to The Auberge at Lake Zurich, 600 America Court in Lake Zurich, for a report of a sexual assault.
Lake Zurich Deputy Police Chief Colin Gaffney said officers learned a male employee assaulted another employee at the facility.
The offender was identified as Everado Cardenas, 53, of Carpentersville.
Cardenas allegedly grabbed the female employee’s breast and genitals without her consent, Gaffney said.
Prosecutors said Cardenas is a janitor and the victim is a medical technician.
Cardenas allegedly told the victim he could not find keys to the laundry room and asked the victim to let him inside.
The victim opened the door for Cardenas and Cardenas grabbed the woman and pulled her into the room, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Cardenas forcefully kissed the woman, digitally penetrated her and touched her breast. The victim pushed Cardenas away before reporting the incident.
Cardenas was arrested at the scene and transported to the Lake Zurich Police Department.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and criminal sexual abuse, a Class 4 felony.
Cardenas was transported to the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan on Sunday where he appeared for First Appearance Court.
Lake County Judge Jacquelyn Melius remanded Cardenas to the Lake County Jail pending a detention hearing, which was scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Gaffney said the case remains under active investigation by the Lake Zurich Police Department.
