A jogger was attacked and injured by two suspects after he fought back during an attempted robbery on a trail near a neighborhood in Libertyville, police said.
The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. Sunday while the victim was jogging northbound on the Libertyville Natural Preserve Trail.
Libertyville Police Department Sgt. Scott Peeler said the jogger was approximately 500 feet southwest of Newgate Court.
While running, two subjects near a trail bench blocked the victim’s path and demanded the victim empty his pockets.
The victim refused to do so and was punched by one of the subjects, Peeler said. A physical altercation ensued.
Peeler said the victim was able to gain the upper hand during the fight and fled southbound from the suspects.
The incident was initially reported to the Mundelein Police Department and later transferred to the Libertyville Police Department.
One suspect was described as an approximately 6-foot-2 male Black, approximately 19 or 20 years old, with longer unkempt hair with short sides.
The other suspect was described as an approximately 5-foot-7 17-year-old male Black with short, thick, unkempt dreadlocks.
The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident but did not require medical attention, Peeler said.
The Libertyville Police Department is investigating the incident.
