A man was shot multiple times while outside a residence in North Chicago, which resulted in a large police search at a forest preserve where the offenders crashed, authorities said.

The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 9:15 p.m. Thursday to the 1600 block of Victoria Avenue for a report of a shooting.

North Chicago Police Department Management Analyst Freddrick Diez said officers responded to both a call of a gunshot victim and a ShotSpotter activation indicating gunfire on the residential block.

Officers found a 23-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in the feet and leg, Diez said.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Diez said two suspect vehicles drove down the street and suspects fired upon the victim, who had been outside.

Parked cars in the area were also struck by gunfire.

Officers recovered spent shell casings at the scene. The ShotSpotter activation indicated that 13 shots were fired, Diez said.

One of the suspect vehicles involved crashed near the Greenbelt Forest Preserve at 10th Street and Green Bay Road. The suspects reportedly ran into the forest preserve.

A large police search commenced with multiple law enforcement agencies being requested to the scene.

Diez said canines and drones were used but the search effort was unsuccessful in locating any suspects.
