Police responded after a Highland Park resident made a social media post implying the threat of violence alongside photos of guns, officials said.

The City of Highland Park Police Department was recently made aware of a social media post made by a Highland Park resident who implied a threat of violence alongside photos of firearms, according to a statement from the city.

Police immediately began an investigation which included speaking to the individual, who was cooperative with police.

City officials said the individual is not lawfully able to purchase or possess any firearms and none were located after a search of his property.

The city filed a request for a Firearms Restraining Order in Lake County Circuit Court. The request was granted.

City staff made the appropriate notification to the Illinois State Police Firearm Services Bureau and the resident has voluntarily sought assistance.

“At this time, there is no threat to public safety,” city officials said Wednesday.

The city said public safety is one of their top priorities and they continue to encourage the public to share any concerns so they can be properly reviewed.

All community members, including residents, business owners and employees, are urged to report suspicious behaviors, threats or other activity to law enforcement by calling 911.
