A Chicago man is accused of shattering a window to break into a car dealership in Crystal Lake before stealing a high-end SUV from the business.
Talen O. McChristion, 21, of Chicago, was charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft over $10,000, which are all Class 2 felonies.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said McChristion burglarized Martin Chevrolet, 5220 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.
McChristion shattered a glass showroom window around 4:15 a.m. on February 19.
He entered the car dealership, which sells used and new cars, with the intent to commit a theft, the complaint said.
McChristion stole a gray 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio worth between $10,000 and $100,000, the complaint said.
Records show the luxury SUV was initially listed for sale at $88,905 when it was new.
An arrest warrant was issued for McChristion on April 2 and he was taken into custody on Wednesday.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain McChristion pending trial, calling him a willful flight risk.
McHenry County Judge Michael Chmiel denied the petition and released McChristion from the McHenry County Jail.
The judge ordered McChristion to not leave the state without court permission, have no contact with Martin Chevrolet and be placed on pre-trial supervision.
A status of preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23.
