A 3-month-old baby died after she was found unresponsive at a daycare center in Zion and had to be flown to the hospital, authorities said.
The Zion Fire and Rescue Department and Zion Police Department were dispatched around 9 a.m. Thursday to the 3800 block of Parkway Lane in Zion for a report of a child not breathing.
Zion Police Department Detective Lt. Paul Kehrli said the incident occurred at a home daycare center.
Officers arrived and found the daycare owner administering CPR to an unresponsive 3-month-old.
Officers continued CPR until the fire department arrived and took over, Kehrli said.
Paramedics transported the child to a local hospital and she was later flown to Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago for further care.
The child died on Sunday in the hospital and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified.
An autopsy did not reveal any signs of foul play but the cause of death is still pending the return of laboratory results, Kehrli said.
The medical examiner identified the girl as Felicity Pineda-Roth, who resided in Zion.
The scene at the home daycare center was processed by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force’s Evidence Technician Unit.
Kehrli said Zion police investigators conducted a full investigation and received “complete cooperation” from the daycare and its employees.
There is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing, Kehrli said. The case remains under investigation.
The girl’s mother, Miel Pineda, said Felicity was “loved and cherish by everyone who knows her.”
“We are heart broken and devastated. However we are grateful for everyone that has been able to support us during this time,” Pineda said.
A GoFundMe to help the family has raised over $7,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
