A tourniquet was applied before paramedics arrived. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Chastain said the boy’s injuries were non-life-threatening and he has since been released from the hospital.

Detectives are working to put together a case and will screen the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office for charges.

Chastain said it was unclear whether the gun belonged to the boy or someone else in the home.
