Police arrested a man who allegedly threatened to shoot his neighbors and caused a two-hour standoff with officers in Wauconda Friday morning.

The Wauconda Police Department responded around 9:09 a.m. Friday to the 600 block of Larkdale Row for a disturbance.

Wauconda Police Department Sgt. Christopher Gallivan said it was reported that a subject was suffering a mental health crisis and threatened to grab a gun and shoot his neighbors.

Witnesses reported that the suspect, Robert Pace, 53, who lives on the block, was sitting in front of his residence holding an object while shouting and threatening neighbors.

Officers made contact with Pace outside his residence.

He continued threatening neighbors that he was going to retrieve a gun and shoot them, Gallivan said.

As officers attempted to detain Pace, he slammed the door on the officers, Gallivan said. One of the officers was struck in the side by the door.

A two-hour standoff ensued and the Island Lake and Lake Zurich police departments were called to assist.

Gallivan said officers eventually forced entry into the residence and took Pace into custody without incident.

No firearms were located and Pace does not possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification card.

Pace was transported to the hospital where he was admitted for a psychological evaluation. Charges are pending in the case.
