Residents from two units were displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Crystal Lake Saturday evening, fire officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 7:34 p.m. Saturday to the Springs at Three Oaks Apartments in the 1100 block of Central Park Drive for a report of a structure fire.
Crystal Lake Deputy Fire Chief Rick Kaiser said firefighters arrived on the scene in nine minutes.
They initially found nothing showing from the exterior of a two-story multi-family apartment complex.
Firefighters entered the apartment and reported smoke inside but no flames.
A fire was located in the attic upon further investigation, Kaiser said.
The fire was extinguished using a single hose line.
One unit of the apartment building sustained fire, smoke and water damage. An adjacent apartment sustained water damage.
Kaiser said both apartments were deemed uninhabitable and the occupants were able to make other living arrangements.
Power and gas were disconnected to the property. There were no injuries to any firefighters or residents.
The cause of the fire, which caused approximately $45,000 in damage, remains under investigation, Kaiser said.
The Algonquin Lake-in-the-Hills Fire Protection District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Huntley Fire Protection District and Woodstock Fire Rescue District assisted.
