Two suspects from Illinois were arrested after a stolen vehicle out of Lake County led police on a pursuit that ended in the car crashing into a tree in Kenosha County.
The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Police Department said they located a car stolen from Lake County traveling northbound on Green Bay Road last Monday.
Officers attempted to follow the vehicle while organizing additional units and the use of spike strips.
The suspect recognized he was being followed and tried to elude officers, police said. A pursuit then ensued.
During the pursuit, officers successfully deployed spike strips twice to the suspect vehicle.
Both deployments of spike strips were successful and the vehicle eventually lost a tire.
A squad car was used to try and slow down the suspect vehicle but the stolen car continued to swerve and try to flee, police said.
The suspect vehicle made contact with a squad car which caused the stolen vehicle to lose control and crash into a tree.
Two adult males, who are Illinois residents, were taken into custody.
Police said the driver had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital before being medically cleared.
He was charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, fleeing and eluding and second-degree reckless endangering safety.
The passenger was uninjured and was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent – party to a crime. He already had an outstanding warrant for the same charge.
The Kenosha Police Department assisted by blocking roads and with the high-risk stop at the end of the pursuit.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene and took a crash report.
The police squad that was damaged was temporarily taken out of service for repairs.
