A motorcyclist suffered apparent serious injuries after a crash involving a sedan that shut down Route 41 in Highland Park for several hours.

The Highland Park Fire Department and Highland Park Police Department responded around 4:06 p.m. Wednesday to Route 41 north of Park Avenue West for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Highland Park Deputy Police Chief William Bonaguidi said Tuesday that the crash involved a 2022 Mercedes four-door and a 2004 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, which were both traveling southbound on Route 41 at the time of the collision.

Bonaguidi said the southbound lanes of Route 41 were shut down between Route 22 and Park Avenue West.

The highway was closed from 4:30 p.m. to just before 8 p.m., a more than three-hour closure.

An initial report indicated the operator of the motorcycle was a 58-year-old man.

Paramedics transported the motorcyclist to NorthShore Evanston Hospital.

Bonaguidi refused to release the man’s condition but said he was still alive.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene to assist with documentation and mapping of the scene, Bonaguidi said.

MCAT is a multi-jurisdictional team that investigates and reconstructs vehicle crashes involving serious injuries or death.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.
