A popular tobacco and vape shop near Gurnee had its license suspended after detectives found they had sold to minors on several occasions, the sheriff’s office said.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said detectives in January conducted compliance checks at stores throughout Lake County that sell tobacco and nicotine products.
Moshis Tobacco & Vape, located at 34491 North Old Walnut Circle in unincorporated Gurnee, failed the compliance check.
The tobacco and e-cigarette store was the subject of multiple complaints regarding sales to minors, Covelli said.
During the compliance check, the clerk sold a tobacco product to an underage child, Covelli said.
Detectives spoke to the clerk responsible and she lied about her identity by providing them with a false name and birth date.
The Lake County Health Department heard sworn testimony regarding the unlawful selling of tobacco at a hearing on March 13, Covelli said.
The health officer suspended Moshis Tobacco & Vape’s tobacco license for two weeks following the hearing.
The business’s license was suspended beginning on April 25 and the suspension will run through Wednesday.
Covelli said anyone with knowledge regarding this business or any other business that sells tobacco to minors is encouraged to contact their local police department.
