A man had to be extricated from his car after he suffered a medical emergency and struck a tree before driving into a pond in Huntley, fire officials said.

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 12:18 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Charles H. Sass Road, formerly known as Kreutzer Road, and Lions Chase Lane.

Huntley Fire Protection District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said initial 911 callers reported a vehicle had driven into a pond on the corner of the intersection.

The driver was still inside the vehicle, which had also struck a tree.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and found a small SUV partially submerged in a pond, Vucha said.

The vehicle was approximately 8-10 feet from shore and down an embankment.

Vucha said firefighters donned their water rescue gear and made initial contact with the driver.

The male driver, who was experiencing a medical episode, required extrication from his vehicle.

Firefighters removed a portion of the vehicle’s frame and safely removed the driver, Vucha said.

He was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
