Multiple animals and residents were uninjured after a fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home near Crystal Lake Friday evening, authorities said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 7:07 p.m. Friday to the 5700 block of Hickory Lane in unincorporated Crystal Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene in approximately three minutes and found heavy flames throughout the garage, fire officials said.
The garage was attached to the house and the fire was reported to be spreading into the home.
All residents escaped uninjured and were relocated with the assistance of neighbors.
Several area fire departments responded to the scene to assist Crystal Lake.
The fire was considered under control in just over an hour, fire officials said.
The single-family home sustained moderate fire damage while the garage was considered a total loss.
The familyโs four dogs and two cats, some of whom were reported to be still inside the structure, were unharmed in the fire.
One of the dogs was seen running away from the structure after firefighters cut open the garage.
There were no injuries to any firefighters or residents, fire officials said.
Power, gas and water were disconnected from the property following the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
