A driver was transported to the hospital after his semi-truck rolled over and spilled a load of sunflower seeds in the ditch along Interstate 94 in Gurnee.
The Gurnee Fire Department and Illinois State Police responded around 8:52 a.m. Wednesday to Interstate 94 and Grand Avenue in Gurnee for a report of a rollover crash with injuries.
A 2012 Freightliner semi-truck pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 exiting to eastbound Grand Avenue.
While the semi-truck was traveling on the off-ramp, it rolled over onto its side in the ditch.
The trailer ruptured and the load spilled out into the ditch.
State troopers reported the load was not hazardous and the trailer was carrying large bags of sunflower seeds on pallets.
The driver of the truck was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
He suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to state troopers at the scene.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service was called to the scene to clean up the spilled load and damaged truck and trailer.
The state police have not said what led to the crash or whether any citations were issued.
