Firefighters rescued nearly a dozen baby ducks that fell into a storm drain at a rehabilitation center in Mundelein and reunited them with their mother.

The Mundelein Fire Department received a phone call last week from Thrive of Lake County, located at 850 Route 45, about ducklings that had fallen through a storm drain.

Mundelein firefighter-paramedics Jake Ellegood, Damian Iskra and Patrick Collins responded to the rehabilitation center and found the ducklings in the storm drain in the facility’s courtyard.

The crew was able to remove three ducklings but were unable to quickly remove the others.

The crew flushed the rest of the ducklings from the sewer pipes into a storm reservoir.

They scooped out the remaining eight baby ducks with a net and returned all of them to their mother.

The Village of Mundelein called it a “feel-good story” and gave a shoutout to the firefighters.
