A 14-year-old was taken into custody after police responded to Jacobs High School in Algonquin for a report that the student displayed a weapon on social media.
The Algonquin Police Department responded around 10:15 a.m. Monday to Harry D. Jacobs High School, 2601 Bunker Hill Drive in Algonquin.
Algonquin Police Department Sgt. Nate Stenger said a student reported to the school resource officer and school administrators that a juvenile male had displayed a weapon on social media.
The juvenile was reported to be at the school but the weapons claim could not be immediately substantiated, Stenger said.
Police officers responded and initiated an investigation with the assistance of Jacobs High School administration.
The 14-year-old boy was located and taken into police custody pending further investigation, Stenger said.
Allegations that the juvenile was armed are unsubstantiated, Stenger said, adding there is no known danger to the Jacobs High School community.
“The Algonquin Police Department takes all reports of potential violence seriously and continue to investigate the matter,” the police sergeant said.
The school was briefly put on lockdown due to the incident. Stenger said the juvenile was located as the lockdown was in the process of being implemented.
