Multiple people were taken into custody after a SWAT team converged on a residence in McHenry Wednesday morning which prompted police to tell people to avoid the area.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office sent an alert around 9:35 a.m. Wednesday about heavy police activity on Prairie Avenue in McHenry.

The McHenry Police Department also asked people to avoid the area while the sheriff’s office “conducted an operation” in the 5000 block of Prairie Avenue.

“There is no danger to the public at this time and the situation is contained to a single residence,” the police department said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT team responded to the scene and was seen converging around the residence.

Bystanders told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that police took four people out of the house and at least two were seen in handcuffs being placed into squad cars.

Around 11:10 a.m., the sheriff’s office sent an updated alert saying the police activity had been resolved and the scene was cleared.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the agency would release information on the incident later Wednesday.
