A convicted felon has been charged after prosecutors say he returned fire on a car, which was occupied by a gunman who shot at his car and wounded a man in Waukegan.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich said the Waukegan Police Department responded on December 3 to the area of Sunset Avenue and McAree Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Officers found the driver of the vehicle, which was occupied by three people, had been shot.
Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.
Officers learned the shooting occurred on Sunset Avenue east of Northern Avenue, Vukovich said.
15 fired shell casings, from two guns, were located in the roadway.
Video surveillance showed two vehicles were involved in the shooting.
Anthony M. Glover, 34, of Winthrop Harbor, along with the victim and another person, exited the C.Y.O.C. Bar and Lounge in Waukegan and got into a silver Chevrolet Malibu, Vukovich said.
A short time later, three other men exited the bar and got into a black Dodge Charger.
The Dodge left the business followed by the Chevrolet eastbound on Sunset Avenue.
A passenger in the Dodge was seen hanging out of the window and firing rounds at the Chevrolet, Vukovich said, adding that the gunman was identified as Jadario Jackson, 26, of Waukegan.
The front seat passenger of the Chevrolet returned fire. A gun was found outside of the crashed Chevrolet.
Vukovich said laboratory testing showed the gun had DNA from Glover. He said he was the front-seat passenger in the car.
Glover was arrested earlier this month after being charged with armed habitual criminal, aggravated discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Jackson had already been charged in the case in January, court records show. He faces aggravated battery with a firearm and numerous other weapon offenses.
Glover allegedly made several statements to detectives, including “I’m going to jail for a long time” and that he was an “armed habitual felon.”
Vukovich called Glover a violent offender who has no regard for human life and said he fired the gun on a public street into another occupied vehicle.
Glover has a significant criminal history. He was on parole at the time of the incident for manufacturing or delivering cocaine, a Class X felony.
Glover also has at least three prior unlawful possession of firearm convictions and a prior conviction for aggravated discharge of a firearm, Vukovich said.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Glover held in the Lake County Jail pending trial.
