The coroner has released the identity of a retired doctor who died after a car rolled over multiple times off of an exit ramp from Interstate 90 in Huntley.
The Illinois State Police and Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 8:40 p.m. May 9 to the area of Interstate 90 and Route 47 in Huntley for a vehicle crash with injuries.
A spokesperson for the Illinois State Police said the single-vehicle crash occurred on the westbound ramp to northbound Route 47.
The Subaru Legacy sedan was driven by a 56-year-old Roselle woman and had two passengers, a 90-year-old Huntley woman and an 85-year-old Huntley man.
All three occupants were reported to be trapped inside the car, which rolled over, according to fire department radio traffic.
Firefighters extricated them from the car and multiple ambulances were called to the scene.
The 90-year-old woman was transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where she was pronounced dead, ISP said.
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein told Lake and McHenry County Scanner on Monday that the victim was identified as Remedios Escalona, 90, of Huntley.
The 56-year-old woman was also transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.
The 85-year-old man was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
The female driver and male passenger’s conditions were not released.
A witness who was behind the vehicle said the Subaru was in the left lane and crossed to the right lane and right shoulder before driving into the ditch and rolling over several times.
The car never braked, the witness added.
An obituary for Escalona said the woman leaves behind her husband of 58 years and three children, along with six grandchildren.
Escalona received a Doctorate in Medicine in 1959 and immigrated to the United States in 1967 to join her husband to start his medical career and raise their family.
After passing her foreign medical examinations, Escalona was accepted to a psychiatry residency at Loyola University of Chicago School of Medicine, her obituary said.
She worked for the State of Illinois at Chicago Read Mental Health Center as a staff psychiatrist until she retired in 2003.
A funeral visitation is scheduled for May 31 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Palatine.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
