The National Weather Service is warning of potentially dangerous line of severe thunderstorms is expected to move through Lake and McHenry counties that is capable of producing tornadoes and destructive winds.
(Update: A tornado watch has been issued for McHenry County until midnight.)
The dangerous storms are expected to reach the Lake and McHenry areas at about 7 p.m. Tuesday and linger through 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service is reporting.
The National Weather Service predicts the storms could hit McHenry County near 8 p.m. and Lake County near 9 p.m.
National Weather Service officials said widespread damaging winds will be prevalent in the storms, adding the storm is capable of potentially producing an EF 2 tornado.
Winds from the storms could potentially gust at 40 mph but reach 75 mph in a few areas, officials said.
People are urged to be prepared for power outages and ensure they have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings.
