One person was transported by helicopter with life-threatening injuries following a crash at the intersection of Route 176 and N. Union Road in Union, authorities said.
Alex Vucha, communication specialist for the Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts, said in a news release Thursday firefighters from Marengo and the Union Fire Protection District were dispatched to route 176 Thursday at 10:14 a.m. for a reported two-vehicle collision with entrapment.
Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes and observed the crash with heavy damage involving an SUV and large truck, Vucha said.
Crews located an adult female who was unconscious and trapped inside a Dodge SUV, Vucha said.
Firefighters quickly worked to extricate the female and transferred her to an awaiting helicopter, where she was flown by LifeNet to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious, life-threatening injuries.
A dog was inside the SUV was unharmed, Vucha said.
A male truck driver declined any injuries while on scene.
Route 176 was closed between P&O Road and Millstream Road in Union due to the traffic crash, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has reported.
The McHenry County Sheriffโs Office is investigating the crash.
