Congestion is about to get worse on Route 12 between Richmond and Spring Grove as the Illinois Department of Transportation announced lane closures will begin May 28 for resurfacing in McHenry County.

IDOT said in a news release resurfacing of U.S. Route 12 from Illinois 31 in Richmond to west State Park Road in Spring Grove through unincorporated McHenry County will require intermittent daytime lane closures, officials said.

The $5.5 million project consisting of resurfacing the 6.7-mile stretch of roadway and installation of new guardrails is anticipated to be completed in November, officials said.

Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, officials said.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, officials said.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
