Vowing to stay in law enforcement, the village of Huntley announced Thursday Police Chief Robert Porter will retire from his position effective June 7.

During a proclamation read at the village of Huntley Thursday, trustees were “extending their heartfelt congratulations to Chief Porter on his upcoming retirement on June 7, 2024, celebrating his career in Law Enforcement and the legacy he will leave behind.”

Porter became a police officer in Downers Grove in 1987 and worked his way up to chief in 2000, officials said.

He was sworn in as Huntley Police Chief in 2015, the proclamation reads, and “demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities to establish a safe community for Huntley residents.”

“In his time here, Chief Porter ensured that all department members received training and had access to the latest equipment and technology needed for their daily tasks and responsibilities,” the proclamation reads.

The Daily Herald is reporting on their website that Porter will spend time with his family while continuing to serve as parliamentarian for the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

“I will stay engaged with law enforcement,” Porter was quoted in the Herald.

The village of Huntley has not named a successor at this point.
