Memorial Day is a chance for residents to honor soldiers who have died while protecting our freedom. Below is a list of locations where people wishing to honor soldiers in your local areas can take place in Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 27, in Lake and McHenry counties:
Lake County:
- Grayslake: Grayslake will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 27. The parade will step-off at 9:30 am near the Grayslake Central High School parking lot on Lake Street and travel south on Lake Street to Junior Avenue and east to Memorial Park. The service will be held immediately following the parade.
- Lake Zurich: Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Lake Zurich. Remember those fallen soldiers as Lake Zurich commemorates these U.S. heroes in their annual Memorial Day Parade.
- Lincolnshire: Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony Plan to join us for this renowned hometown event as we remember the fallen military and honor our veterans. The Memorial Day Commemoration takes place at Spring Lake Park, 49 Oxford Drive, on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.
- Lindenhurst: The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will take place Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at the Paul Baumunk Lindenhurst Veterans’ Memorial, located at 2301 E. Sand Lake Road. The keynote speaker for the 2024 Memorial Day event will be retired Colonel Timothy Hyland of the U.S. Army.
- Libertyville: Libertyville’s Memorial Day Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 27. Participants will gather at the Metra Train Station at 9:00 a.m. for a procession to Cook Park. The program will continue in Cook Park at 9:30 a.m. with music from the Libertyville High School Band, presentations by Mayor Johnson, representatives of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and high school essay content winners.
- Round Lake Beach: Village officials and the Round Lake Beach Police will be at the Memorial Day Ceremony honoring and remembering U.S. Servicemembers. Ceremony will commence at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park at the northwest corner of N. Cedar Lake Road and W. Clarendon Drive on Monday, May 27th, 2024.
- Waukegan: Join the City of Waukegan and partners in honoring all those who have perished while serving in the United States armed forces on Monday, May 27, at 10:45 a.m. at Veterans Plaza in Waukegan. The parade will start at the intersection of Genesee and Washington, proceed up Washington to Veterans Memorial Plaza on the southwest side of the intersection of Washington and West Streets. All are invited and welcome.
- Wauconda: The parade kicks off from Cook Park and ends at Rt. 176 and Main Street. Main St. is closed for vehicle traffic at 9:15 am and the parade starts at 10 am. Memorial Day remembrance ceremony is after the parade, at noon, at the Memorial Park at Rt. 176 & Main St.
- Round Lake Beach: Village officials and the Round Lake Beach Police will be at the Memorial Day Ceremony honoring and remembering our U.S. Servicemembers who died protecting our freedom. Ceremony will commence at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park at the northwest corner of N. Cedar Lake Road and W. Clarendon Drive on Monday, May 27th, 2024.
McHenry County:
- Cary: Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2107 Three Oaks Road, and proceed south on First Street to Cary Veterans Park. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at Cary Veterans Park. Closing ceremony for Veterans Network Committee of Northern Illinois for the Field of the Fallen at Three Oaks Road and Georgetown Drive will be at 5 p.m. Monday.Â
- Crystal Lake: Crystal Lake Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Parade starts at Crystal Lake Central High School and runs on Franklin Avenue, north on Williams Street and west on Woodstock Street to Union Cemetery, where a memorial service will take place.
- Fox River Grove: Fox River Grove’s parade is 8:30 a.m. Monday at Algonquin Road School, 975 Algonquin Road, and proceeds on Algonquin Road to South River Road to Fox River in Lions Park.
- Huntley:Â Parade for the village of Huntley and Huntley American Legion Post 673 Auxiliary will step off at 11 a.m. Monday from the Huntley Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St., and heads west to Town Square. Ceremony takes place right after parade.
- Johnsburg: Chapel Hill Road bridge over the Fox River at 8:30 a.m. Monday. May 27. Ceremony by Johnsburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11496 honors veterans, first responders, firefighters, paramedics and police officers, at 9 a.m. at Waterfront Hotel & Marina, 3309 N. Chapel Hill Road. Parade will follow along Chapel Hill Road through the roundabout at Johnsburg Road to St. John’s Avenue and ending at Rescue Squad Memorial Park with a concluding ceremony.
- Lake in the Hills: American Legion Post 1231, 1101 W. Algonquin Road, ceremony with a wreath-laying and a 21-gun salute at 10 a.m. Monday. A pig roast with a suggested donation of $5 runs from 1 to 5 p.m.
- McHenry: Memorial Day ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Park, 3400 Pearl St.
- Richmond:Â American Legion Post 253 ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at Stevens Park on Broadway and Main Street.
- Spring Grove: Ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Monday at Horse Fair Park, 8105 Blivin St.Â
- Woodstock: Memorial Day ceremony on the Square begins at 10 a.m. Monday with a parade immediately following. The route will be around the Square before heading west down Jackson Street to Oakland Street, north to Judd Street and east to Throop Street.
