An elderly man is suffering from serious injuries and a dog was killed after they were hit by a car in Woodstock, authorities said.

Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called to the corner of North Jefferson Street and East Judd Street at 2:10 p.m. Monday for a report of a pedestrian and a dog who had been hit by a car.

Firefighters arrived within three minutes and observed a single-vehicle crash with an elderly male patient on the ground suffering from serious injuries, Vucha said.

A medical helicopter was called in and airlifted the male patient to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, Vucha said.

The small dog was pronounced dead at the scene, Vucha said.

The driver of the vehicle declined any injuries, Vucha said.

Because the crash took place near railroad tracks, railroad traffic on the Union Pacific line was shut down during the incident, Vucha said.
