Six people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in unincorporated McHenry County near Marengo that required additional ambulances from outlying fire districts due to the number of patients sent to area hospitals, officials said.
Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said Marengo Fire & Rescue was called to the intersection of Route 23 and River Road at 2:40 p.m. Monday for a reported two-vehicle accident with multiple injuries.
Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes, Vucha said, and saw moderate damage from the two-vehicle crash involving a Buick SUV and a Hyundai sedan.
Due to the amount of patients involved, firefighters called for additional ambulances and resources to the scene from fire districts in Woodstock, Huntley, Genoa-Kingston and Hampshire, Vucha said.
In total, five patients in the Buick and one patient in the Hyundai were transported by ambulance to local hospitals, Vucha said.
All patients involved were suffering from minor-to-moderate non-life threatening injuries, Vucha said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, Vucha said.
