A Woodstock man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and running into an elderly pedestrian and killing a dog in Woodstock.
Christian Peetz, 78, of Woodstock, has been charged by the McHenry County State’s Attorney with aggravated DUI involved in an accident resulting in great bodily harm, court records show.
The complaint filed in McHenry County Court early Monday alleges Peetz was knowingly operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol at 2:10 p.m. Monday when he hit a pedestrian, causing multiple fractures to the victim’s skull.
Peetz is due to appear in court Tuesday afternoon regarding the charges.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called to the corner of North Jefferson Street and East Judd Street Monday for a report of a pedestrian and a dog who had been hit by a car, said communication specialist Alex Vucha.
Firefighters observed a single-vehicle crash with an elderly male patient on the ground suffering from serious injuries, Vucha said.
A medical helicopter was called in and airlifted the male patient to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, Vucha said.
The small dog was pronounced dead at the scene, Vucha said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Woodstock Police Department.
