An Elgin man has been charged with providing fentanyl-laced cocaine to two Marengo people who later died, authorities said.
The Marengo Police Department said in a news release they responded to an apartment complex in the 600 block of E. Grant Highway December 1, 2023, for a report of two dead people.
Through the investigation, it was determined the 45-year-old woman and 48-year-old male overdosed on fentanyl-laced cocaine.
The investigation showed Jarrail Ford-Gresham, 34, delivered the fentanyl-laced cocaine on Nov. 29, 2023 to the female who later died, authorities said.
Ford-Gresham is charged with two class X felony counts of drug-induced homicide, one class one felony count of criminal drug conspiracy – delivery of a controlled substance and a class two felony count of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance/any amount of substance containing fentanyl.
If found guilty at trial, he can be sentenced up to 30 years in prison on the most serious class X felony.
Ford-Gresham is currently being held in custody in Kane County jail on charges of drug-induced homicide stemming from additional incidents in Elgin and Palatine, officials said.ย Those charges are being prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney Generalโs Office.
The Marengo case will be prosecuted by the McHenry County States Attorneyโs Office, officials said.
