Michael Weger, 45, of Crystal Lake

A Crystal Lake man has been charged with endangering the health of a child for being highly intoxicated when allowing a 22-month-old child to wander unattended into a roadway.

McHenry County court records also show Michael Weger, 45, is facing charges of aggravated assault to a peace officer for approaching a police officer several times with his fist clenched and arm pulled back in a threatening manner when authorities confronted him at 6:49 p.m. Friday, May 31.

The charge for threatening a peace officer is a class 4 felony and could put Weger in prison for up to three years, authorities said.

The charge of endangering the welfare of a child is a class A misdemeanor and could put him in McHenry County jail for up to a year.

According to the criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Friday, Weger was “highly intoxicated” and left the child unattended for about 10 minutes, at which time the child wandered into a roadway.

Weger was released from McHenry County jail following first appearance court Saturday.

Weger is ordered to not consume any amount of alcohol or be at a place where the primary purpose is the sale or consumption of alcohol.

He is also required to submit to alcohol evaluation and follow all recommended treatment handed down by the court.

Weger is also due in court later today to revoke his pretrial release because of a previous court case, records show.

Weger was charged in January with DUI for crashing his vehicle on Route 14 near Rose Farm Road while intoxicated.

According to that charge, Weger was at a 0.169 blood alcohol concentration when he crashed, court documents show.

The crash did not result in any injuries, court documents show.
