A German Shepherd trapped in the Diamond Lake muck is safe, clean, and reunited with his owner thanks to a little help from the Mundelein Fire Department.
Mundelein Fire Department Lt. Kurt Rodeward said crews were dispatched to the shores of Diamond Lake at about 2 p.m. on May 31 for a dog stuck in the Diamond Lake muck.
Rodewald said Max – the German Shepherd – got out of his yard and somehow got stuck in thick muck near a lake seawall.
Rodewald said Mundelein firefighters Ryland Marchioni, Doug Citrano, and Tyler Gaunky ventured out into the muck and pulled Max’s back legs free.
“Once Max’s back legs were free, the crew was able to pull him up to the top of the seawall,” Rodewald said. “Then, a neighbor let us use a hose to clean him off.”
Max was wearing a tag, Rodewald said, and the owner was contacted and picked up Max.
“Everything worked out,” Rodewald said. “Who doesn’t like a good story with a happy ending like this?”
