An 18-year-old motorcyclist from Mundelein died in a crash with a pickup truck in Mount Prospect, authorities said.
Daniel Vazquez was pronounced dead near the intersection of Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive at about 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, Mount Prospect Police said in a news release.
Police received a 911 call of a traffic crash involving a motorcycle near that intersection, authorities said.
Upon arrival, officers located the motorcyclist lying in the roadway and good Samaritans attempting to provide help, authorities said.
Officers attempted to render aid to Vazquez, but he had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows Vazquez was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road while wearing a helmet in the median lane when he struck the back of a grey pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old male from Antioch.
The pickup truck was preparing to turn left into a private driveway, authorities said.
A white-colored pickup truck traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road driven by a 56-year-old female of Hoffman Estates was also involved in the crash, authorities said.
The two drivers of the pickups were not injured, authorities said.
The crash is under investigation by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team and the Major Case Assistance Teamโs Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team.
Algonquin Road was closed between Dempster Street and Embers Lane for about 7 hours before reopening at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.
