A man who died in a crash at the intersection of Algonquin and Harvest Gate roads in Lake in the Hills has been identified.

McHenry County Coroner officials said toxicology and a cause of death are still pending for Donald Hampton, 67.

Deputy McHenry County Coroner Olivia Zednick said the location where Hampton was a resident remains unknown.

She added the case is still under investigation.

Hampton was driving a 2024 black Kia Forte when he collided with a white BMW X5 at about 6:20 a.m. Thursday, May 30.

Paramedics from the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District were dispatched to the intersection and began rendering medical treatment to both drivers before they were transported to Huntley Northwestern Hospital, authorities said.

Authorities said there were no passengers in either vehicle, and the crash remains under investigation.

Algonquin Road was shut down in both directions for about four hours because of the accident.
