The North Chicago Police and Fire departments responded at 6:40 p.m. on March 2, 2021, to the Prairie View Court location in North Chicago for a report of a shooting.
Police officers arriving at the scene located a 47-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she later died, authorities said.
The woman was later identified by Lake County Coroner officials as Glenda Cramer-Cayson, 47, of North Chicago, and was a resident of the apartment complex in the 0-100 block of Prairie View Court.
Authorities said Porter and Cramer-Cayson had been in a previous dating relationship and were involved in a verbal argument when she tried to run away.
She ran outside the apartment building, fell, and Porter shot her multiple times, authorities said.
Porter was taken into custody at the scene and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved murder charges after reviewing the case.
Lake County Coroner officials said an autopsy confirmed Cramer-Cayson died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators said no one else was injured in the shooting.
Porter was held in Lake County Jail on a $3 million bond before being sentenced.
