A Crystal Lake man already on probation for domestic battery has been sentenced to two years in prison for pushing a 73-year-old woman to the ground, causing her to hit her head, authorities said.
John Karavakis, 54, formerly of Crystal Lake, was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for domestic battery in front of Judge Mark Gerhardt on May 30, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick D. Kenneally said in a news release.
Felony charges of domestic battery resulting in bodily harm and aggravated battery to a victim over 60 were dropped in exchange for the plea deal, court records show.
Karavakis was alleged to have pushed the victim, whom he is a relative and caregiver of, on Oct. 16, 2023, court records show.
Karavakis was on probation for misdemeanor domestic battery for incidents with the same victim at the time of the 2023 incident, court records show.
The news release also states Karavakis must comply with a criminal order of protection for at least two years following his four-year mandatory supervised release period from prison.
He received 228 days credit for time already served in the McHenry County jail, court records show.
