One person was injured following a two-vehicle crash on Route 45 near Antioch Tuesday, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Antioch Fire Department responded to a traffic crash with injuries on Route 45 and Miller Road in unincorporated Antioch at approximately 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found one of the passengers in one of the cars sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Covelli said the preliminary investigation shows an Infiniti sedan, driven by a 22-year-old man of Hainesville, was traveling southbound on Route 45 approaching Miller Road behind a BMW SUV, driven by a 21-year-old woman of Antioch.

The driver of the BMW began slowing to turn right onto westbound Miller Road, but the driver of the Infiniti did not slow and hit the back of the BMW, Covelli said.

The BMW then ran into a stop sign, Covelli said.

A 36-year-old, front-seat passenger of the BMW from Antioch was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Covelli said no other injuries were reported in the crash.

The driver of the Infiniti was cited for failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident while the driver of the BMW was cited for having a small child unrestrained in the vehicle, Covelli said.
