Two people are injured – one critically – during an early morning shooting at a party in North Chicago, authorities said.
City of North Chicago Chief of Staff Greg Jackson said police were called to the 2100 block of Prospect Avenue at about 2:20 a.m. for two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jackson said a party was taking place in the area when an argument broke out and someone opened fire.
He said no one is in custody and it is an isolated incident.
North Chicago Police is leading the investigation into the shooting, Jackson said, but added the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force was called to the scene to assist with evidence collection.
North Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief Kim Schaefer said medics transported two victims to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
She said one patient was in critical condition with a second in serious condition.
Jackson said the person in serious condition is now in stable condition.
Photos from the scene show multiple bullet casings were recovered by evidence technicians at the scene.
Authorities said the shooting took place almost simultaneously with a fatal car crash Sunday morning on Route 41. However, the two incidents do not seem to be related, authorities said.
