A Highwood resident is identified by the Lake County Coroner’s Office as the person who died in a head-on crash early Sunday morning in North Chicago.

George Santi, 67, died from blunt force injuries he received in the crash on Route 41 south of Brompton Avenue at about 2:14 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, said Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek in a news release.

Autopsy results show Santi died from the blunt force injuries he received as a result of the crash, the news release reads.

Toxicology tests are still pending.

North Chicago Police and Fire departments responded to Route 41 following a report of a two-vehicle crash, authorities said.

Emergency responders found the two vehicles with heavy damage and multiple victims in the roadway after colliding head-on, authorities said.

Santi was the driver and sole occupant of a Honda Pilot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two occupants of the Honda Civic were transported to an area hospital for their injuries, authorities said.

Based on the severity of the crash, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County was requested to assist with the investigation.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda SUV was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of traffic when the collision with the Civic occurred.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department and MCAT.
