Quick thinking by Island Lake police officers resulted in a lack of injuries to a resident trapped in a fire Sunday, authorities said.
The Wauconda Fire District was called to the 900 block of West Plum Street in unincorporated McHenry County near Wauconda for a structure fire at 4:34 p.m. Sunday, authorities said in a news release.
Crews were updated by dispatchers while heading to the blaze that the resident was trapped inside and the home was filling up with smoke, authorities said.
Firefighters arriving at the scene of the two-story structure were told officers from the Island Lake Police Department were able to get the resident out of the house. The resident was not injured, authorities said.
The fire was upgraded to a mutual aid box to bring additional fire companies to the scene and to assist with coverage of the Wauconda fire stations, officials said.
Crews extinguished the fire, officials said. A damage estimate is unknown.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, authorities said.
