A Woodstock man is being held in McHenry County jail after kicking an officer in the face and threatening harm to another officer’s family during an apparent fight outside of a Woodstock bar Saturday night, court records show.
Juan Morales Jr., 33, is charged with a class one felony of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, two class three felony charges of aggravated battery in a public place, and one class three felony charge of threatening a public official following the confrontation at 12:50 a.m. Saturday.
If found guilty of the most serious charge, Morales could be sentenced up to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The charges are also probationable.
Morales is also facing a class A misdemeanor count of resisting a peace officer, court records show.
Woodstock Deputy Police Chief Ray Lanz said officers were dispatched to 233 Benton Street for a report of a physical altercation occurring.
Court records show the name of the establishment was The Cabin.
Officers arrived and located a male subject, later identified as Juan Morales, being restrained by other citizens outside of the location, Lanz said.
After investigating the incident, Lanz said officers learned Morales was told to leave the establishment by employees due to his behavior, and a physical altercation ensued.
Morales had struck another citizen and an employee, after which they physically restrained him until the police arrived Lanz said.
Morales was placed under arrest when he kicked one of the arresting officers in the face as they were placing him in the rear of the squad car, Lanz said.
He added Morales began making threatening statements towards that officer and other officers on the scene regarding them and the children they may or may not have, Lanz said.
None of the officers involved were seriously injured in the incident, Lanz said.
Court records show Morales kicked the officer near his left eye and made threats about the officer’s family.
Morales was also charged when he tried to spit in the face of another officer, court records show.
Morales was ordered detained following a hearing in McHenry County court Monday, court documents show.
He is due back in court on July 15.
