A 19-year-old man from McHenry was ejected and killed in a motorcycle crash involving an SUV on the border of Lake and Cook counties, police said.
The Arlington Heights Police Department, Palatine Fire Department and Arlington Heights Fire Department responded around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Lake Cook Road and Wilke Road in Arlington Heights for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Police officials said a 2005 Kawasaki Concours motorcycle and a 2014 Toyota Rav4 were involved.
An initial investigation showed the motorcycle, driven by Jack Fuchs, 19, of McHenry, was traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road in the median lane approaching the intersection with Wilke Road.
The Toyota was stopped waiting to make a left turn from westbound Lake Cook Road onto southbound Wilke Road.
The Toyota began making the left turn onto Wilke Road and entered the eastbound lanes of Lake Cook Road, police officials said.
Fuchs made an evasive maneuver in an attempt to avoid a collision with the Toyota. The motorcycle fell and slid over onto its right side.
Fuchs was ejected and struck the rear passenger side of the Toyota.
Police officials said Fuchs, who was not wearing a helmet, was found unresponsive in the roadway.
Bystanders at the scene immediately began performing CPR on Fuchs prior to the fire department and police department arriving.
Fuchs was transported by ambulance to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights where he died from his injuries shortly after arriving.
The Arlington Heights Police Department and the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash.
No citations have been issued and no charges have been filed, police officials said.
Eastbound Lake Cook Road was closed between Route 53 and Arlington Heights Road for several hours while investigators reviewed the scene.
