Two people were injured, including one who had serious injuries, after a two-vehicle crash on Route 176 near Marengo Monday morning, authorities said.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and Union Fire Protection District responded around 9:23 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Route 176 and Dunham Road in unincorporated Marengo for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and observed a two-vehicle crash with moderate to heavy damage, according to Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.
One driver was trapped in the vehicle and firefighters quickly extricated them and transferred them to an awaiting ambulance.
Vucha said a medical helicopter was initially requested to land at a church at Route 176 and Union Road.
The helicopter was later canceled prior to arriving on the scene.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley with injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
Route 176 was closed in both directions for approximately 45 minutes, Vucha said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
