Kwamann D. Gholson, 21, of Rockford.

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to over three years in prison after prosecutors say he led police on a two-county pursuit beginning in Harvard in a stolen vehicle.

Kwamann D. Gholson, 21, of Rockford, was charged earlier this month with possession of a stolen vehicle, three counts of aggravated fleeing to elude, reckless driving, speeding and driving on a suspended license.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on January 23, 2023.

The Harvard Police Department was called to the area of Timber Drive in Harvard when a concerned citizen called 911 regarding a vehicle driving slowly around the neighborhood at night without its headlights activated, prosecutors said.

Officers arrived in the area and observed a Kia Sportage immediately accelerate away from them. The vehicle drove through the yard of a residence.

Prosecutors said a police pursuit ensued into Boone County and the Kia drove off the side of the road.

The driver was observed escaping on foot and officers later learned the Kia had been stolen out of Arizona.

Officers searched the Kia and found items belonging to Gholson inside the vehicle.

Officers involved in the pursuit who observed the driver of the stolen Kia were later able to confirm that the driver was Gholson, prosecutors said.

Court records show Gholson entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office this week.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony. The rest of his charges were dismissed in exchange for the plea.

McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea on Tuesday and sentenced Gholson to three years and six months in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
