A woman was transported to the hospital after authorities say she crashed her car into a freight train at a railroad crossing in unincorporated McHenry County Thursday.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts, Union Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7 a.m. Thursday to the 8000 block of Seeman Road, which is east of Union and northwest of Huntley, for a report of a crash involving a train.
The McHenry County Conservation Police and Union Pacific Railroad Police also responded to the scene.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived to find a crash involving a 2017 Honda Civic and a Union Pacific train.
Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said the Honda was heavily damaged and came to rest in the ditch.

The crash occurred at the Seeman Road railroad crossing, which does not have any lights or gates.
The female driver of the Honda, who is a Woodstock resident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Vucha said the woman was out and walking when fire crews arrived.
She was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley. No one on the train was injured.
The sheriff’s office said the woman had been driving the Honda southbound on Seeman Road when the vehicle struck the train, which was traveling westbound.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Union Pacific Railroad.
