No injuries were reported after a fire engulfed a garage next to a house and left it destroyed in Waukegan Thursday evening, officials said.

The Waukegan Fire Department responded around 7:09 p.m. Thursday to the 500 block of Chestnut Street for a report of a structure fire.

Multiple neighbors called 911 to report a garage was on fire. The garage was not attached to the residence.

A video taken by a neighbor showed heavy flames and smoke visible from the structure.

Firefighters arrived and reported finding a fully involved garage fire. Additional fire crews were called to the scene.

The fire was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes.

Waukegan Sixth Ward Alderman Keith Turner said there were no injuries reported in the incident but the garage was a total loss.

Turner said the fire was reportedly caused by one of the residents illegally burning brush and branches behind the garage.
