Three teenagers were seriously injured and two of them had to be flown to the hospital after a car struck a tree near Huntley Friday evening, officials said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 7:35 p.m. Friday to the area of 44W911 Dietrich Road, which is an unincorporated area north of Hampshire and west of Huntley, for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Michael Pierce said it was initially reported that a vehicle struck a tree.
The incident occurred on Dietrich Road west of Brier Hill Road.
There was a report that occupants were still trapped inside the car, prompting additional fire crews to be called to the scene, Pierce said.
Pierce said firefighters arrived within six minutes and found three injured victims in the single-vehicle crash.
Those victims were all juveniles described as teenagers. Two of them were trapped inside the car and required firefighters to extricate them.
Firefighters worked for approximately 45 minutes to extricate both juveniles from the car, Pierce said.
A LifeNet medical helicopter and a Mercyhealth REACT medical helicopter were called.
One of the juveniles was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
A second juvenile was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood by the LifeNet helicopter, which landed at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
The third juvenile was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago by the REACT helicopter, which landed at the TA Travel Center near the crash scene.
Pierce said all three victims suffered injuries considered serious but none of them were believed to be life-threatening.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the incident, has not yet released information on what may have led to the crash.
In February 2023, a juvenile driving intoxicated caused a rollover crash that left herself and four other teenagers critically injured in the same location.
