Extensive delays are reported after a man was killed in a crash between a car and a Metra train in Ingleside Monday morning, officials said.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:35 a.m. Monday to the area of Larkin Lane and Wilson Road in Ingleside for a vehicle crash involving a train with injuries.
The sheriff’s office said the incident involved a train and a car. The car was heavily damaged.
Metra reported Train #2124 was involved in the crash and extensive delays were anticipated. Several other scheduled Metra trains were delayed.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli confirmed one person was killed. No other injuries were reported.
Deputies shut down Wilson Road between Route 134 and Rollins Road in Ingleside due to the incident.
The roadway will be closed for several hours during the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
The Metra Police Department was notified and is responding to handle the investigation.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said his office is responding to the scene.
An autopsy on the male victim will be conducted later Monday, Newton said.
The identity of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has not been confirmed yet.
